There is no better way to spend a sunny summer day than by cruising through all of Copenhagen’s canals. Thankfully, you no longer need a friend with a boat or a heavy amount of cash to make your sailing wish come true. Thanks to GoBoat you can now rent a sustainable, solar powered boat and become a captain for a day.
Last weekend, me and my friend wanted to celebrate the fact that we are both in relationships at the same time, and can finally go on double dates. After an endless battle of where-should-we-go, we finally agreed to try out the increasingly popular GoBoat and picnic experience.
In a pavilion in Islands Brygge, there is a small harbor where boats from GoBoat depart every 30 minutes. You can book you boats in advance through the website listed below, or head on over to their offices at Islands Brygge 10, 2300 and book your boat there.
The boats are fit for couples, or parties with up to eight people, and are equipped with a long picnic table and benches so everyone can comfortably enjoy their meal. If you happen to think about heading over there spontaneously and don’t have any food packed, don’t worry, GoBoat has got their own organic deli and picnic packages prepared for you.
There is no license or experience required to become a captain of a GoBoat, but you must be 18 or over to be the one steering. I was particularly frightened that I would be allowed to steer a boat with no previous experience, but my fears soon vanished after the personnel explained to all of us how the whole thing works. It is truly a beginner friendly boat, there is nothing to worry about.
The quietness of the boat, which is possible because of it being solar powered, combined with the calm waters of the Copenhagen canals and the delicious food made this one of the most memorable summer days in Copenhagen. All four of us agreed that is was the best possible double date we could have planned.
It is a great way to be social and to get to enjoy Copenhagen from a different view. Don’t hesitate and go ahead and book a GoBoat this summer.
